Definition of Lithotriptic:
Antilithics (Gr. against + stone) prevent the formation of urinary and biliary concretions in the excretory passages; Lithotriptics (Gr. stone + to rub) dissolve urinary and biliary concretions in the excretory passages when formed:

- biliary calculi: alkaline waters, turpentine, etc.;
- vesical calculi:
- uric acid or urates: alkaline salts, magnesium citro-borate, etc.;
- calcium oxalate: acids, carbonated waters, etc.;
- phosphatic deposits (calculi) : ammonium benzoate, nitric acid, etc
